Too Much Stuff!

Too much stuff!

It all has to go before the move, as mentioned in my last post, Quitting my Job.

We have about 6 weeks to de clutter and save as much money as possible. What better way than a good old sell off.

When you look at a cluttered basement or garage it can be very overwhelming. You ask yourself “Where the hell do I start?” and then just walk away and get nothing accomplished. Well there’s a better way of doing things that’s less intimidating. How do you eat an elephant? One bite at a time.

Little by little

Here’s what I’m doing and would like to challenge some of you to do as well. For the next 30 days, I’ll be putting one item for sale a day.  That’s it, no pressure.  Taking that small step isn’t all that intimidating and should only take 5 minutes a day. No excuses.

Consistency is key here. One bite at a time and next thing you know that elephant will be gone.  Just take a look around.  Can you see anything you haven’t used in 6 months or a year?  You probably won’t miss it if you sell it.

Virtual Storage

But what if I need my thingamajig next month and I’ve sold it?  Well then buy another used thingamajig for the same price.  Selling stuff is like virtual storage.  We sold a treadmill we weren’t using for $600 two years ago.  If we ever want another one, I bet we can get an even better one for $600.  See what I mean?

Keeping score

I’ll be updating this post every week with my progress so check back if you want to see how I make out.

Who’s up for the challenge?

Week 1-  $95

Week 2- $90

Week 3-

Week 4-

Total amount for clearing out “stuff”-

This happens to be a very timely post, as I’m sifting through and trying to decrease my clutter. Great idea to put one item up for sale a day!

Every time I walk into my basement I feel like I am at a second hand store. Great idea! I have a large doll house ready to go!

Decluttering is the best! And this is an awesome way to make an overwhelming job much more manageable. Baby steps…

We got rid of almost all of our extra stuff when we moved into this house a few years ago. Now the challenge is not letting more stuff accumulate. My husband and I are great about it – I use stuff until it breaks and hate shopping and same with him. But the kid’s stuff keeps piling up, and it pretty much makes me crazy.

I like the idea of your virtual storage. By selling your treadmill when you weren’t using it, you actually secured more money than if you would still have it today! Nice!

And if you invest the money, it’s like your “stuff” is paying you compound interest!
